What Will You Do With What the Universe Has Given You?
No matter what you choose to do in life, there will always be someone who is stronger, has more experience, shines brighter, gets more clients or jobs, or has more successful results than you do. Don’t let that stop you from trying new things, from shining a light that only you can shine because there is only one of you. The world deserves to see you sparkle; it deserves to see you shine. Someone, somewhere may identify with the color of your skin, your body type, your age, your ethnicity, your gender or your story, and when they see you living with passion and enthusiasm, love and grace, then maybe just maybe they can see themselves in you.
I started taking my training in aerial arts seriously in October of 2016 under the tutelage of Erica Cope at Buffalo Aerial Dance; 2 years after I broke my left ankle in a running accident, 20 or so years after training, choreographing and performing in dance and movement, 2 years after increasing involvement in the wellness and fitness industry. Some days it is an upward battle, other days I coast along. Flexibility comes easy for me but upper body strength is harder. I won’t lie to you, the shape of your body matters, the condition of your muscles, the stability of your bones, your mental fortitude. All will come together to test you, to challenge you, to aide you, to support you and you will feel exhilarated, afraid, defeated, determined, inspired, sometimes all within one session but definitely over the course of time. It is an art, a science, a political statement, a workout, a dance. Because of and in spite of it all, you will find with patience, determination and consistent practice that it can be one of the most rewarding experiences of your life. The moral of the story is, what will you do with what the Universe has given you?
